Ayurvedas World would like to sincerely thank all who were able to attend Monday evening's meditation event on May 4, and say we missed those who could not join us.
And thank you for the loving donations for Nepal earthquake relief by all who attended! As referenced in the adjoining post, one of our students from Nepal, Neelima, is coordinating a meditation, mantra chant and fundraiser at Ayurvedas World on May 23rd to raise funds and collect donated supplies for much needed aid. Also, whether you made it or not, you can hear a beautiful recording of one of the kirtans recorded that night by Earinside: http://www.earinside.com/music/

In response to one of our student's desire to help with Nepal Earthquake relief, Ayurvedas World will host a meditation, mantra chanting and kirtan event on Saturday, May 23rd from 11am to 2pm. The attendees of our May 4th full moon meditation event have lovingly contributed toward this cause to help get things started! 🙂 Event Overview
  • Where: Ayurvedas World (donating venue for event and assisting)
  • When: May 23rd, 11am to 2pm (rsvp NOT required)
  • Who: Neelima (Ayurvedas World student fron Nepal who will be working with uniteyouthforchange.org and other organizations to raise funds and collect supplies), Nepali musicians, and YOU!
From Neelima's Facebook Post: Join me on May 23 for meditation and Kirtan to raise funds for earthquake victims in Nepal. As you all know, the situation there is dire. A week after the massive earthquake killed more than 6,600 people and collapsed buildings, temples and homes, remote villages remain cut off from help. More than 130,000 houses were destroyed in the quake, according to the U.N. humanitarian office. Near the epicenter, north of Kathmandu, whole villages are in ruins, and residents are in desperate need of temporary shelters against the rain and cold. Right now the death toll is continuing to rise by the thousands as the people who actually survived the earthquake aren't getting the food, water, and medical aid they need. Alone, I can help one person, but together we can help a community. So, let's come together for the people of Nepal. All funds goes to purchase emergency supplies such as masks, work or medical gloves, blankets, water purifiers, first aid kits, bandages, antiseptic wipes, tents and so on. If you want to donate these items, you may put it in the donation box. We will do meditation, mantra chanting and kirtan with few Nepali musicians. Why kirtan? Kirtan is a form of bhakti (BHAK-tee) yoga and bhakti is the yoga of devotion, which creates a powerful vibration in the body, affecting a person's mind and spirit. Lokah samastah sukhino bhavantu. May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to the freedom for all. Namaste

Many thanks to Earinside kirtan featuring Nikos and Marissa. Below are a few photos of the event. For information on our next evening of meditation, click here. Spring/Summer ’15 Ayurvedic Nutrition Certification Program Begins!

On the heels of the recently completed Fall/Winter class of 2015, a new class has begun and the recent graduates lovingly wish the new students well as they begin their journey of learning! To prepare for the learning and changes to come, the weekend class included a one-day liver detox. As the snow has melted here in New York City, and the sun has reappeared with Spring approaching, so are fresh, healthy, beautiful changes coming in our own lives. Many thanks to Jody for providing an Ayurvedic yoga session, and Hiral for an Ayurvedic cooking presentation. Due to many prospective students expressing an enthusiastic interest in this Ayurveda Certification Program which began March 13, we are trying to schedule an additional class to possibly begin in May if space can be made in the calendar of other events and classes. If you are interested in this possibility, please express your interest in the class on this page. You may also signup for our newsletter here for updates. Feb 3 Meditation Event Thank You & Pics

Thank you to all who were able to attend last night's New Moon Meditation event despite the icy/slushy conditions! It was a wonderful event full of love, learning, advancing, healing, connecting, and more!!! The right words escape me...how would YOU describe it??? I will share that before the event, Dr. Naina was so touched that many people were expressing interest in coming despite the weather...and tender motherly concern arose in her whether she and Rumana made enough food for all as the RSVPs kept coming in...it was very cute.  Well, there was plenty for all and it was AMAZING, homemade Ayurvedic food undeniably made with love! (as always!) Much love and gratitude to Earinside for helping fill the center with even more love, color and harmony. They will join us again next month March 5 so please RSVP here if you would like to attend to learn more about and experience Ayurveda + meditation (ALL are welcome--from those who are well-experienced, and anyone simply curious to learn more). Beautiful things are happening at Ayurvedas World and we are glad you are a part of it! 🙂

Winter Season Ayurvedic Suggestions from Dr. Naina

Hot-Water-Kettle-Winter-Ayurveda-Suggestion-PostWe are currently in the season that increases Kapha and Vata so I was inspired to simply share a few general suggestions. In this season, people may be more prone to experience digestion and sinus problems, colds, flu, pains & aches (especially the joints), anxiety, sleep difficulty, or low enthusiasm. Diet style is one way to address this. I recommend warm, easy-to-digest foods be included in your diet. Cook legumes very well to soften and digest more easily. Try to minimize uncooked foods this season, but if consume raw foods do so chopped very well or blended, or as smoothies. It's always good to combine green leafy vegetables with stem vegetables (such as asparagus, squash, etc) to balance Kapha and Vata. Also, cook flowery vegetables (like broccoli and cauliflower) with root vegetables (like carrots and beets).
